Standing in traffic can be very annoying and robs your time you actually want to spend somewhere else. We have taken on the challenge to find activities that will not only make waiting in traffic more endurable but actually really worthwhile. The more you will be stuck in traffic, the better for you. When you are driving alone:
Boost your Network
Always have a phone with a hands-free speaking system ready (headphones with an integrated microphone are available for a low cost). In the time of flat rates, you have the ideal opportunity to make these phone calls you have been putting off for too long. Call your old friends, family members or that business contact. The more you will be stuck in traffic, the better network of friends, family and business partners you will have!
Improve your languages
You always wanted to improve your Spanish? There are uncountable amounts of audio language courses. Find your favourite language and practise, as soon as you hit traffic. The more you are stuck in traffic the better your language skills will be.
Get creative and get it done
You are really busy and don’t have time for traffic? Install an app for dictation on your smartphone (there are ones for free or for a small fee, e.g. VOICE Texter ) and get on: make notes and set up your to-do lists. The next shopping tour, children’s birthday, vacation or party will be planned in no time. You can also use this trick for work e.g. when you have a new project but you are lacking time to look at it from another angle or make it excel. Or start your own projects, like that book you have been meaning to write for a long time. The more you will be stuck in traffic, the more projects you will succeed in!
Make people happy!
Many studies have shown that nothing makes us more happy than making other people happy. Make it your habit to think about gestures and actions that would make the people around you happy. No expensive presents required, little signs of attention are completely enough. The more you will be stuck in traffic, the happier you will be!
When you are with friends and family:
Get surprised!
How well do you really know your car passengers? Even your closest family members have stories and interests you never knew! Tell each other one a story that the others don't know yet. It is surprising, what you will get to know about each other. The more you will be stuck in traffic, the better you’ll know your people.
Teach your offspring!
In traffic you are the most interesting thing your kids have. Use it! Your daughter has a weakness in geography? Play a game of guessing capital cities. Your son did lousy on the last math test? Every car has an instruction manual on board. Do you actually know when you have to get a service, or what function these funny lamps in your dashboard really have? Maybe you have speed regulator you are just not using? The more you stand in traffic, the more of a car expert you will become!
Read and learn
When do you really have time for reading? In the evening you are mostly too tired after a long day of work, so being stuck in traffic is the perfect opportunity. Always have a book available for these situations, maybe an old classic you always wanted to read or a book about a topic you want to learn more about.
